U.S. and European Market Roundup
· The DJIA down 29.92 points to 9,712.28 points.
· U.S stocks fell on Wednesday after a surprising contraction in an index of Midwest business activity, but buying of technology bellwethers like Cisco Systems Inc at the end of a strong quarter limited losses.
· European shares climbed 17.3% in the July-September period, the best quarterly gains in almost a decade, against an 11.5% decline in the third quarter of last year.
Macro and Corporate New
· Tanjong Plc said its net profit rose 32.8% to RM181.5 mln from RM136.7 mln for the second quarter to July 31 2009 due to improved topline performances in all business segments including power generation, gaming and leisure segments.
· Pernec Corp, a unit of Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB), targets revenue to reach RM400 mln this year, helped by its revitalised payphone business.
